Sung in 1931 by Mr. Elmer Jcncks, Kalkaska, who had learned the song from Canadian lumbermen near Kalkaska, about 1880 This is the chorus of the song:
So merry, so merry, so merry are we,
There's no one in the wide world any merrier than we.
Hi derry, ho derry, hi derry down,
Give the shanty boy whiskey and nothing goes wrong.
The choruses of texts C and E are more similar to that of G than to that of A.
